The Band

Andrew Cardno photo

Andrew ‘Duke’ Cardno - The Voice and rhythm guitar

The heart and soul of Union Avenue. Andrew has be dedicated to whackin’ out floor stompin’ rock‘n’roll to the classic boom-chicka-boom rhythm for over 2 decades now, as well as performing his own material as a solo artist. He recently appeared in the stage production "Burning Rings of Fire" as the spirit of Cash.

Paul Paterson photo

Paul ‘Luther’ Paterson - Lead Guitar

Paul has performed as lead guitarist and front man for some of Europe’s finest rockabilly bands since starting with the Radium Cats in the 1980’s. He also has a solo blues hit with ‘I Got It Hard’ which was featured on Radio 1. Dale Hawkins (Suzie Q) called Paul "the English Ry Cooder". Dale wasn't very good at geography, but he sure knew a great guitarist when he heard one.

Matt Curtis photo

Matt Curtis - Upright Bass

Matt started out in music as a lead guitarist and singer. His career as bass player started in a big way, touring all over the world and recording with the Kaisers - including a Radio 1 session with John Peel. Later, his love of rockabilly prompted him to take up the double bass, and when he was invited to join Union Avenue in 2006, he ‘jumped at the chance’.

Richie photo

Richie ‘O.K.’ Corral - Drums

Richie O.K. Corral is the newest member of Union Avenue. Richie is an Edinburgh based drummer and political activist. His love affair with the drums began at aged seven when an ‘old’ psychobilly named Paul Paterson gave him a set of drumsticks and a cardboard box. Richie was a fanatical Radium Kitten until the Cats broke up, at which point he started listening to Nirvana and Incubus J But the lure of playing great shuffles proved too much for him and he’s delighted to be sitting behind the kit for Union Avenue.
